NEW YORK — The New York City teachers union warns it won’t let the nation’s largest school district reopen for in-person classes this month if the city doesn’t issue protective equipment, conduct testing and clean schools properly.

Union leader Michael Mulgrew in a Friday video accuses the city of not acting with enough urgency on the pandemic.
The return of public school students to classrooms was delayed from Sept. 10 to Sept. 21 so coronavirus safety precautions could be worked on further.
Mulgrew says the city knows what it needs to do to make schools safe and, in his words, “if you can’t make that happen before the children come into schools, then we’re not going to let you open these schools.”
The city says it will work with the union.
It’s what’s best for the students it what’s best for the over paid and underworked teachers. And they aren’t doing a great job anyway
Teacher’s unions, are reshaim. They could care less about the kids.
Ban all public sector unions.
If they won’t come into teach, don’t pay them.
I see the Washington Post is reporting at least six educators have died of the virus so far. I suppose that number will go up when schools reopen.
Police and firefighters also die ! Do the job or retire.
This is the one time that the normally leftist teachers union has grown a spine.
The Mayor of NYC is in over his communist minded head and his school chancellor does little but kiss his backside to keep his well paid position and benefits.
They both ate totally unprepared for these extraordinary times and are putting the health of both teachers and students at a high risk for cross contamination.
There are plenty of well intended teachers who want to teach but can’t because of the progressive liberal crap that the mayor and his school head have imposed of the teachers.
Now along comes this horrific pandemic and they both are in over their heads. Total confusion is all that is going on in NYC compounded by the arrogance and stupidity of those charged with being in charge.
Don’t blame the teachers but blame those running the school system.
Bring back prayer in schools and they will be safe
Teachers’ unions are doing their jobs – which is to protect and advocate for their members . . .Before knee-jerk branding them as resha’im, how about looking at what they are asking for? They are not asking for more money, benefits, or time off? They are asking for safety precautions! Why is that unreasonable???
No problem no school no salaries. You’ll see how fast they open the school. עולם שקר
If you thought the Minnesota and Washington State mob scenes were a problem, watch what happens when you have 1.13 million NYC public school students roaming the streets, looking for something to do. And someone to do it to. Minneapolis is going to look like Six Flags compared to this.
this gives a new and ironic meaning to the quote “the Revolution devours its children”
