GOMEL (VINnews) — Some 1500 Breslov chasidim are stranded in Belarus near the Ukrainian border as they attempt to reach Uman for Rosh Hashana. The Ukrainians imposed a ban on tourists at the end of August but the chasidim still hope for some intervention which will allow them to enter the country.

In the meantime the chasidim are stuck in various border cities, with some of them even sleeping in parks and streets. Many of them have little access to kosher food and are subsisting mainly on fruits and vegetables. Many of them have not been able to shower or use running water for weeks.

Some of these pilgrims are in Brest, Pinsk and Radin which are adjacent to the Ukrainian border while others are in the Belarus capital, Minsk.

Chasidim levelled criticism at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, coronavirus commissioner Prof. Ronni Gamzu, Interior Minister Arye Deri and health minister Yuli Edelstein for pressuring Ukraine to close its borders and for failing to assist those waiting to enter Ukraine now. The Israeli officials fear a mass increase in COVID-19 infections when the chasidim return to Israel but chasidim claim they will maintain all the regulations and will not have any contact with the local population of Uman.

Is one to supposed to feel bad for them???
They knew this would occur before they departed. They relied on “HaShem Yaazor”.
Can we also say “HaShem Yaazor” which may mean its HaShems will for them to stay in these towns through Rosh Hashanah? With no provisions and no running water. Yeh. HaShem’s will.
Is this ‘Techilasau B’pesheeah vesofo b’ones – or better vesofo b’peseeah” ????

Its chodesh elul. No loshon hora. I just don’t understand why beaches, bars and protests are allowed in Israel, but davening yom tov and going to uman must be banned. Coming from a country that calls itself Jewish. I am not breslever, and don’t know anyone who went, but still…I think Israel should mind it’s own business and let frum Jews be frum Jews. Lock the bars and beaches. They spread corona.

Many haven’t showered in weeks. That was even before they got stuck where they are.
