Ken’s Diner, a well known Kosher diner, was the first of its type on the North Shore of Chicago. The diner was established in April of 1976 as “Kosher City.” In 1981, it converted from a grocery and deli to a 1950’s Diner, and has since been known for burgers, Italian beef on garlic bread, Popcorn Chicken and homemade soups and chili.

Barstool announed on Wednesday that Ken’s Diner will be the next company they support.

Barstool Sports is on a mission to help small businesses stay afloat during these tough times. Barstool kicked off its relief fund with $500,000 of the media company’s own funds, and has since raised over $10 million through donations and merchandise sales.

Businesses qualify if owners are continuing to pay their staff despite struggling to stay open. Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy pledged recurring relief for the businesses that are selected, so that rather than delaying an inevitable closure, the businesses have a chance at surviving post-pandemic.

“We’ll do it through the life of this thing,” Portnoy said on Tucker Carlson’s show last week.

As of the time of this writing, the fund has raised $10,000 for Ken’s Diner.

A shout out to ken
That’s historical I started kosher city in 1976 straight from mirer yeshiva kolel
With Mike S and Harry ah as partners
We hired ken as our deli man
Skokie was a community just starting as an orthodox enclave
After many trials and tribulations it changed hands a number of times until it finally ken became the sole owner and in his creativity changed it from a kosher grocery deli into a very successful restaurant
I wish him great success for the future
From the guy who hired you some forty years ago Elchonon E

I moved out of Chicago about 20 years ago and lived or traveled to quite a few different places with kosher restaurants. Nothing compares to Ken’s Diner. Awesome food and good people as well. Happy for them.
