JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Rabbi Nir Dorfman serves as a volunteer EMT in the United Hatzalah organization. Recently he was called to the house of a woman about to give birth who had a serious medical problem. There was also concern that her child would not be delivered alive. Dorfman gave her emergency medical attention and she was taken to hospital in serious condition, where she was taken for an emergency operation.

The baby was born without any sign of life, but the medical team succeeded in finding a pulse and heartbeat and resuscitated the baby. It was apparent to the doctors that the liquids provided by Rabbi Dorfman in the initial treatment for the woman’s low blood pressure had been critical in saving her life.

A week later the family held the Bris in their house and invited Rabbi Dorfman, who also volunteers as a mohel for the Bris Yosef Yitzchak organization, to be the mohel for their son. The family expressed their gratitude to him for his prompt assistance which saved the life of mother and child.

Rabbi Dorfman told Kikar Hashabat that “I wasn’t at all optimistic, I was very concerned at the time and then suddenly two days later the mother called me and told me that I had saved her life and the life of her baby son.”
