The fire started at approximately 3:00AM Sunday morning at Yeshiva Chayei Olam on Faraday. The fire was in advanced state by the time the Fire Department arrived on scene. The fire raged for approximately an hour and a half before being brought under control.

The Sefer Torah had been inside a safe, which fell through the floor when the building collapsed., leaving its contents vulnerable. By the time the Sefer Torah was removed, it was unfortunately burned and destroyed.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

A tragedy.
It is not for us to decide what action or inaction caused this. Please understand that people have been getting sick and dying. I was very careful but some person that likely ignored the rules gave my family Covid.

What is important is to help understand why the fire started.
Was it faulty electrical work, maybe done by someone not qualified?
Was it an overloaded electrical cord?
Was it faulty chargers for a cell phone?

Cheshvon hanefesh required here.
Either from the whole shetot, or the whole neighborhood, or maybe the whole Yeshivah.
If this is attributed to faulty this or faulty that then the message is in vain.

Bde. The question is if there is a way to secure the sefer in a safe in such a way that it would be protected in such a case? I think that evaluation is what’s needed now instead of everyone’s theories of why this deserved to happen

Although we don’t know why such things happen, it’s important to note, that Lakewood was unfortunately very late to the game, when it came to reopen, as the pandemic started to wane off, all other cities opened the doors to learning and davening as soon as the number of ppl infected were so few, and b”h saw great siyata dishmaya, no sane person person would argue that you should keep 40/50 thousand students home, when there is not even one person dying per week
