NEW YORK (VINnews) – A 30 year old man with a long arrest record remains in custody after slashing a Chasidic couple and their baby during a Chol Hamoed outing in Manhattan.
The family was walking on the edge of Battery Park across from 17 State Street when the incident occurred shortly before 6 PM. Police said that Morningside Heights resident Darryl Jones pulled out a knife and slashed the 22 year old father in the head, the 23 year old mother in the lip and their one year old son, in his stroller, in the chin before running off.
Police responded to a 911 call and arrested Jones at the scene and recovered the knife that is believed to have been used in the attack. All three victims were treated for minor injuries at the scene, refusing further medical attention.
According to the New York Post (https://bit.ly/3fEvdaF), the victims said that while Jones was ranting during the attack, he made no anti-Semitic remarks. While Jones was found to be in possession of drugs, it is unclear if he under the influence of any controlled substances at the time of the attack.
A resident of the New York City’s Housing Authority’s Grant Houses, Jones has five prior arrests and was released from jail one month ago after spending years behind bars in connection with a violent 2011 robbery on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. He was charged with three counts of assault, assault on a person less than seven, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
